Well today was one of those days when you got to hang out with friends and just shoot at things. It is amazing on what can bring people together and with us it was weapons. Just the thought of seeing things get blown apart or tore in half or just disappear. Well today we did that and it was so much fun. I never thought it would come down to see how much we can destroy a microwave, we did and it was a mess when we were done. I am glad to have good friends who just like to shoot and hang out. Thanks for a great day guys and to many more. THANKS.

Thanksgiving Poem

~ Thanksgiving In Iraq ~
To the men and women who will be in Iraq this Thanksgiving Day...The people of America, remember you in every way.I know you have little ones, back here at home.I see you in the desert, sleeping in sand, all alone.
It must be difficult to learn a language not your own.To keep the peace in Iraq, is hard, when those you love are in a land so far away.I feel your sadness on this Thanksgiving Day.
You are young men and woman.Teaching freedom is the way America was made. How do you show people, who are so afraid? When you walk with boots, that fill with sand. But the Lord is still there with you in a Muslim land.
I will set a place at the table, this Thanksgiving Day.Hoping you will come back soon...Maybe on Christmas Day.

Lets give thanks for all our soldiers who are keeping our freedom on this Thanksgiving Day.

Thanks for all you do.

For the past few weeks in Sunday School we have been on the subject of spiritual obedience. I know sometimes it is hard just being obedient in the world let alone spiritually. I was reading this morning in my Bible and it really got me thinking about Abraham, he made some mistakes in his life just like we all do and he turned out ok. The reason I bring up Abraham is this, God told him to do something and he did. He left his country not knowing where he was going because God told him too, he was willing to sacrifice his only son because God told him too. This day in age we question everything because we are looking out for what is in it for me. Well I realized if God tells you to do it and you obey then everything is in it for you because God blesses those who OBEY. Just think about that and the times you were faithful and did what He asked you to do and somehow and in someway He blessed you for your obedience. Let's bless Him with our obedience and see where you can go. I thank the Lord everyday for what He has done and for what lies ahead. I hope you all have a great and obedient day.

When one door closes, another opens; but we often look so long and so regretfully upon the closed door that we do not see the one which has opened. "Motto do not look back look to the future"

There are holidays that people really seem to enjoy. Some people like Christmas, 4th of July, Thanksgiving, etc. My 2 favorite holidays are Memorial Day and Veterans day. I like them because it is a day to remember and say thanks to all our veterans for the courage and the stamina to serve this great country of ours. I started thinking about it the other day when I realized that the units that are deploying today, have friends of mine that are in it. I know each and everyone of these guys will be in my prayers and they are probably the units we will replace next year. I am just thankful that we have men and woman who are so willing to serve our country and I am also thankful for the ones who gave the ultimate sacrifice. I really don't know who reads this but if you are a veteran, THANKS FOR SERVING.

A veteran is someone who, at one point in his life wrote a blank check Made Payable to 'The United States of America ' for an amount of 'up to and Including my life.' That is Honor, and there are way too many people in This Country who no longer understand it.'

Three blondes were all applying for the last available position on the Texas Highway Patrol. The detective conducting the interview looked at the three of them and said, 'So y'all want to be cops, huh?' The blondes all nodded. The detective got up, opened a file drawer and pulled out a folder. Sitting back down, he opened it and pulled out a picture, and said, 'To be a detective, you have to be able to detect. You must be able to notice things such as distinguishing features and oddities, such as scars and so forth.' So saying, he stuck the photo in the face of the first blonde and withdrew it after about two seconds. 'Now, ' he said, 'did you notice any distinguishing features about this man?' The blonde immediately said, 'Yes, I did. He has only one eye!' The detective shook his head and said, 'Of course he has only one eye in this picture! It's a profile of his face! You're dismissed!' The first blonde hung her head and walked out of the office. The detective then turned to the second blonde, stuck the photo in her face for two seconds, pulled it back and said, 'What about you? Notice anything unusual or outstanding about this man?' 'Yes! He only has one ear!' The detective put his head in his hands and exclaimed, 'Didn't you hear what I just told the other lady? This is a profile of the man's face! Of course you can only see one ear!! You're excused too!' The second blonde sheepishly walked out of the office. The detective turned his attention to the third and last blonde and said, 'This is probably a waste of time, but...' He flashed the photo in her face for a couple of seconds and withdrew it, saying, 'All right, did you notice anything distinguishing or unusual about this man?' The blonde said, 'I sure did. This man wears contact lenses .' The detective frowned, took another look at the picture and began looking at some of the papers in the folder. He looked up at the blonde with a puzzled expression and said, 'You're absolutely right! His bio says he wears contacts! How in the world could you tell that by looking at his picture? ' The blonde rolled her eyes and said, 'Well, Helloooo! With only one eye and one ear, he certainly can't wear glasses.'

Well today is Friday and I am off today and hopefully going to get my grass cut for the last time this season. I am thankful today for having a great family and a great church family as well. You never know who is in a church until you get involved in church. I have been involved in all different aspects of the church from Royal Rangers to ushering to choir and teaching. I believe the one I like the most is teaching my Sunday School class. I like my class because we have a wide array of people and we all seem to mesh very well. I think the one thing I like the most about teaching is responding to the call and sharing my life with the class. I think the other thing I like is as I always seem to learn something new myself and it usually hits me while I am teaching the lesson. I guess you can call it a AHA moment. The Lord always finds a way for me to share my life in the lesson and I guess He figures they can learn something from my life so I am not hesitant to share. Well the other thing I like is Ushering because I get to meet new people and just smile at everyone else and get them to smile back. I guess what I am trying to say is get involved somewhere in your church and I guarantee you will be blessed.

I was thinking today about this saying and I have used it myself and I was wondering, am I getting old. I started looking around at some of my friemnds at the YMCA and I am hoping I am like them when I get there age. There is a man named Gunny he is 53 and built like a rock and can motivate you to do anything. Then there is Forrest this man is 63 and he clocked in running over 1200 miles last year, I am not sure how many he got in this year yet. Then there is Tom and he is 73 and he is at the gym 3 days a week and he just keeps going. One of my favorites is Lester and he will be 81 in January and he is at the gym 2 days a week. He told me at his age he just needs to keep moving and he is always there and always smiling. Now whenever I say or here someone say I am getting old I will think of these guys and hope and pray I am as active as they are when I get that old. So the question I am going to leave you with, are you really getting old or do you just need to get moving?

Tuesday, September 23, 2008

I started out today just looking back and seeing where you have been. I was wondering have you changed or are you still the same. Pastor Rick and I were talking on how fast are kids are growing up and just seeing changes in them that make us feel like we are getting old( WE ARE ). I have noticed in my girls that they are growing so close to the Lord that it sometimes makes me jealous. I see them weeping and praying and just growing that it excites me and makes me want to be that close. I noticed that I have changed and I need to be pushing closer and not back. I want to publiicly thank the Lord for everything He has done for me and the things He is going to do for my family and myself. So if you read this just look back and see where you have been and don't just say I have grown, really look back and see. Where are you? Have you grown or are you the same. There is a sign in Alaska that reads " Choose your rut wisely because you will be in it for the next 200 miles".

Well it seems like forever since I ran last and it felt like I was starting all over again. I have been dealing with some aches and pains over the last 3 months so I babied them and got myself back where it does not hurt as much. I got back into running on the road last Monday and did 3 miles and then Wednesday I did 2 plus sprints. This Monday I did 3 miles and today I pushed it and did 4 miles. I did it too and was glad to see that I am coming around to getting back to where I was before. Now all I need to do is get myself into a couple of races before the year is over. I am glad that I did take the break but when I seen other people out there running it made me jealous so I am back and I am very glad to be back. Well I gotta RUN sorry for the pun.

Sunday Morning

Sunday is just one of them days, you wake up and you start thinking ok what's first. I know we have church that is a gimme and I know I need a cup of coffee and that is a gimme. It just seems when Sunday hits you immediately start thinking about Monday and the week ahead. I try not to but it seems to just happen. There is one thing that I am excited about today and that is Sunday School because being in the National Guard you go away sometimes and I have not taught a class in 5 weeks. I am looking forward to teaching today because it is something I enjoy to do. So I hope you all have a good Sunday School class and if you don't then just come visit me at First Assembly of God in Hendersonville, TN. Well I hope you all have a good Sunday and if you can, forget about the week and enjoy church.

Saturday, September 6, 2008

Well today we had family day at our unit for the National Guard. It seems weird because you see these people every month but they are in uniform, then you see them in civilian clothes and they look totally different. We had a good time and the weather was nice too, it stayed cloudy all day so it did not get to warm. It is nice to meet so many of the families and see how the other half is. You don't get to see them that much and when you do it is a treat. Well I still am very glad to be serving my country again. Have a good day.

Well I had the chance to sleep in today but as you know even when you are gone life goes on. I had to get up early this morning to go get new tires for the van. I was the first in line at 6am at wal-mart and I was still there for 2.5 hours. I am very thankful though for my girls. While I was gone my girls stepped up and got the yard done for me while I was gone, they both worked together to keep it up so I did not have to when I got back. I am very thankful for my girls it makes me realize more and more how responsible they are becoming and how much they are growing up. I am very thankful for a great family.

Thanks girls for everything.

Well today was the last day of our annual training. We had to go into work today and we worked until about 1pm and then we were done. I am sure glad to be home and sleep in my own bed. The mattresses we slept on were to soft and now my back is sore. I got to know a lot of the guys better on the trip, you tend to when you are in the same barracks with them for 3 weeks. I guess I will know how a year will feel once we get deployed. It was a fun trip and it always seems that when things go wrong you tend to forget them when you get home. I just remember all the fun we had too and the jokes we played on each other. Well when all is said and done I am with a great bunch of guys and gals and that I am proud and glad to be able to go over seas with them. Well again I am glad to be home and look forward to seeing you all on sunday or whenever. See you all soon.

Thursday, August 28, 2008

Well it has been 3 weeks since I wrote last because I went to Mississippi for training. It was very hot down there but I knew that already and I was somewhat prepared, but you can't get totally prepared. We had some good traing but we had some down time too where we could have been doing some good training. Once we got out there and we started doing some missions it got exciting. We went to Camp Shelby and we stayed in barracks that were probably older than me and I am thankful that we had air conditioning in them. The bad part was when you had to go to the bathroom it was in another building. That is a long walk in the middle of the night when you really had to go. We managed though. I am so glad to be home and just get a great hug from my family especially my wife. That hug felt great. Well I am home safely and will write more at another time. Have a great day.

Saturday, August 9, 2008

Well the time has finally come and I am ready to go. I will be spending the next 3 weeks in mississippi and it will be a lot of fun. I am bringing my laptop just in case I can get on line and update the blog. If I can I will let you know all that is going on and the fun I am having. If not then you will here from me in 3 weeks. Talk to you all real soon.

The Baptist Dog. A Baptist preacher and his wife decided to get a new dog. Ever mindful of the congregation, they knew the dog must also be Baptist. They visited kennel after kennel and finally found an owner who assured them that he had just the dog they wanted. The owner brought the dog to meet the pastor and his wife. 'Fetch the Bible,' he commanded. The dog bounded over to the bookshelf, scrutinized the books, located the Bible and brought it to the owner. 'Now find Psalm 23,' he commanded. The dog dropped the Bible on the floor, and showing marvelous dexterity with his paws, leafed through and, finding the correct passage, pointed with his paw. The preacher and his wife were very impressed and purchased the dog. The pastor and his wife began to show off the dog, having him to locate several Bible verses. The visitors were very impressed. One man asked the preacher: 'Can he do regular dog tricks, too?' 'I haven't tried yet,' the preacher replied. He pointed his finger at the dog, 'HEEL' the preacher commanded. The dog immediately jumped on a chair, placed one paw on the pastor's forehead and began howling. The pastor looked at his wife in shock and said, 'Good Lord! He's Pentecostal!'

You never know what is going to catch your eye when you are walking or driving. I was walking back to my truck from the gym and I noticed a sign on the back of a jeep. It was on the spare tire cover and it said Life Is Good. Now just seeing that sign got me thinking and I said to my self, self Life is Good. I started thinking about it and I realized that God has blessed me tremendously with a great family, a good job, and most of all with good health. Yes I hurt once in a while but it is still a good life and I thank God for that. Some signs you read are stupid but that one made me think. LIFE IS GOOD is yours???????

Well it is another Monday and we are starting another week. This is going to be a busy week for me because I am leaving for the lovely state of Mississippi on Saturday. I know it will be busy at work and at home because I need to wrap a lot of things up. I will write again before I leave and if I can get on line I will update where I am at and how much fun I am having. Well I hope you all have a good day and a even better week.

The declaration of independence. Think I can tell you that first sentence. But then I'm lost ,I can't begin to count the theories I had pounded in my head that I forgot. I don't remember all that Spanish Or the Gettysburg address But there is one speech from high school I'll never forgot .( Chorus )Come on in boy, sit on down And tell me 'bout yourself So you like my daughter, do you now Yeah we think she's something else She's her daddy's girl and her mama's world She deserves respect, that's what she'll get, ain't it son. Now y'all run along and have some fun I'll see you when you get back. Bet I'll be up all night Still cleaning this gun .Well now that I'm a father. I'm scared to death one day my daughter's gonna find That teenage boy I used to be. Who seems to have just one thing on his mind She's growing up so fast it won't be long 'fore I'll have to put the fear of God Into some kid at the door[repeat chorus]It's all for show, ain't nobody gonna get hurt It's just a daddy thing, hey believe me man, it works[repeat chorus]

This is one day that I am not looking forward to and any man with daughters will one day meet that first boy she likes. I know for sure if we raise our daughters right and have them love the Lord they will do the right thing. I am just really wanting to have fun with that first boy and if you get the chance you tube the song cleaning this gun by Rodney Atkins.

I was given another great opportunity today and that was to give blood. There are a lot of people out there that just won't do it because of one reason or another. I think that if you gave blood you are saving a life. I bet you don't even know what your blood type is. Well the reason I give is because my blood is rare, it is AB+ and I try to give as much as I can. I am glad to know that someone will get my blood and that it just might be mine that saved a life today. I thank the Red Cross for doing what they do.

Now there is a phrase we hear very frequently and I was wondering how many times you said it. I believe it is a phrase we use as an excuse for doing something. We all have 24 hours in a day and yet we say there is not enough time in the day to get things done. The reason I am bringing this up is, we are all busy and yes we may not have enough physical time to do what we want to do. In Sunday School yesterday we were talking on the snares of the devil and that is one of his biggest lies " I do not have time ". We have time for everything else but if he can tell us we don't have time to read our Bible or say a prayer than he has started to take that time away from us and will put something in its place. Don't let the devil steal your Bible time or your prayer time because if he does he won. MAKE TIME!!!

I know what you are thinking, what in the world is FRG? Well in the military everything is an acronym and FRG stands for Family Readiness Group. We had our FRG meeting today and they had a social worker come in to talk to the kids about a family member getting deployed. It was a great meeting and she even took the older kids out to another room so they can share what is going on with them and how they are dealing with this upcoming deployment. She did a fabulous job too and gave us all some great info on getting things ready. She said something that just stuck in my head and that was whether we are getting deployed or just going off to work or school, we should never leave without having our differences settled. You never know what can happen to us on our way to work or school and it could be our last time we see each other. I know it sounds morbid but it does make you think about life. Our life is so short as it is we should never leave without saying I am sorry or most of all I LOVE YOU. It was something that just made me think and that I would not want to lose a loved one knowing that I did not say I LOVE YOU or I AM SORRY. Think about it.

There once was a man named Charles Plumb and he was a Navy jet pilot in Vietnam. After 75 combat missions, his plane was shot down by a surface to air missle. Plumb ejected and parachuted into enemy hands. He was captured and spent 6 years in a communist vietnamese prison. He survived the ordeal and now lectures on lessons learned from that experience. One day, when plumb was sitting down in a restaurant, a man came up to him and said are you Charles Plumb. Charles said yes I am, how did you know that? The man said I packed your parachute. The man shook his hand and said " I guess it worked " So my question to you is Who's packing your parachute? Everyone has someone who provides what they need to make it through the day. Sometimes in the daily challenges that life gives us we miss what is really important. We may fail to say hello, please, or thank you, congratulate someone on something wonderful that has happened to them, give a compliment, or just do something nice for no reason. As you go through this week, this month, this year, recognize people who pack your parachute.

I just figured it out. Man you guys are good.

I am having a problem on this page, it won't let anybody place comments to my page and I can't figure it out. If you can help me see me at church and maybe we can figure it out. Have a great day.

How did wednesday get to be known as humpday. I know it is in the middle of the week and they say from there it is all down hill for the weekend. I just don't get that, it does not seem the week gets any easier. I also don't believe the week goes faster, I just know it is another day and we should not rush our days, they are going by fast enough as it is. One case in point I have a a daughter in high school and a daughter in middle school, it seem just like yesterday they were born. Once again when the work week gets here we all say " I can't wait for the weekend ". There is a song out there by Trace Adkins and it is your going to miss this, let's slow down and enjoy all the great things we have and the great way in which we get it. Thank God today that you can enjoy this humpday and everyday that we wake up. May God bless each and everyone of you today and everyday.

Today was one of those days when I got the chance to try something new. As you know in past blogs that my foot has been bothering me and I could not run on it. I was talking to a few friends last week and one of them suggested swimming as an alternative. I said I would give it a try and today I started it. I am use to freestyle swimming or shall I say just goofing off swimming. I have never swam with my face in the water and breathing out the side of your mouth . I made a lot of splashing around at first and the instructor was patient with me and by the end of class I was getting it. I have not got it yet but with more swim time and practice I might do ok. So that goes to show you that you can teach an old dog new tricks.

Today is a day that is one of the best days and one of the days we have a golden opportunity and that opportunity is, we get to go to church. I look around sometimes in church and see people missing for reasons that are very simple. People in other countries do not have the opportunity we have to go to church. Imagine having to sneek the Bible into a home so we don't get caught just to have church. Imagine always looking over your shoulder because you just came from church and don't want to get caught. We have a golden opportunity and we should not miss it just because we want to go to a game or the beach or just hang out with friends. I always look at it this way, God is always there for us why can't we be there for Him. I believe another great opportunity we have and that is Sunday School. It is a class where you get down to the nitty gritty of the Bible and you really learn about God. I am honored to be able to teach in Sunday School and God has blessed me with that ability to get up and teach. Folks let's get real and get to church and you will realize that the people there are just like you, a person in need of a Savior and that Savior is Jesus. Thank Him everyday for the simple things he does like give you air to breath. I am off to church, hope you will too.

Well I have been painting in my daughters bedroom the last 2 nights and I am feeling my age. You ever notice when you are painting how little things start hurting, say for instance your knees hurt from getting up and down. You feel more tired when you are done also and you realize you just don't like painting. I use to paint for a living when I worked in Pa. and I use to love it. I use to like to see the room just change before your eyes and the way the room looks so clean and bright when you are finished. I have just come to the realization that I just don't like to do it anymore. I am feeling it today in my knees and my foot, they just hurt and I think know matter how in shape you are it will get to you. So to all you painters out there who do it for a living thank you for doing what you do. I also believe that like the ministry there are jobs out there that take a special calling and painting is one, roofing, drywall hangers and mudders and most of all septic tank cleaners. Well I guess God has a calling for all of us and I am glad He called you to this ministry and not me. I will stick with the military and getting shot at lol. Y'all have a good day.

And then the fight started. When I got home last night, my wife demanded that I take her someplace expensive....so, I took her to a gas station and then the fight started....

I rear-ended a car this morning. So, there we were alongside the road and slowly the other driver got out of his car. You know how sometimes you just get soooo stressed and little things just seem funny? Yeah, well I couldn't believe it.... he was a DWARF!!! He stormed over to my car, looked up at me, and shouted,'I AM NOT HAPPY!!!' So, I looked down at him and said, 'Well, then which one are you? And then the fight started.....

My wife and I were sitting at a table at my high school reunion, and I kept staring at a drunken lady swigging her drink as she sat alone at a nearby table. My wife asked, 'Do you know her? 'Yes,' I sighed, 'She's my old girlfriend. I understand she took to drinking right after we split up those many years ago, and I hear she hasn't been sober since. 'My gosh!' says my wife, 'Who would think a person could go on celebrating that long?' And then the fight started.....

Just remember to laugh and you will see how good it makes you feel inside.

I have been going to the YMCA now for close to 2 years and I can still remember the time I started at 5 am. I remember just making casual conversation among the people there and how things just seem to come about. I remember the first time I was asked to go running with the guys in there group on Monday's and Wednesday's. Things sure change and how they have all become good friends and how they know when you are not there or not. As you know my foot has been hurting and so I let some of my friends there know about it and it is amazing how they care and ask you about your problem. I met some great guys and ladies at the Y and I am real glad that I am apart of that group. You know we all have close friends and then we have friends who we only see once in a while, well I got some good friends. Thanks to all my fellow friends at the Y and let's continue to take care of one another.

I am doing this small business management course and right now I am doing a class in Excell 2007. I have been doing real good in it until last night. I was doing one of my homework assignments and I got stumped. I had to figure out this problem and I even went back to the book to figure it out and tried everything and nothing worked. I was on and still on this one problem and it is the last one I need to turn my homework in. I stayed at this for at least 3 hours last night and I was ready to scream. I had a bright idea that I will call the school and get some assistance, so I called and guess what, all the operators were busy all 4 times I called. I finally just shut the computer down and said fooey on it and went and got ready for bed. I will tackle it again tonight when I get home. The moral of the story is take a break before you go crazy.

Starting Over

You ever have an injury and you can't wait for it to get better. Well I have one of those injuries in my foot. I stayed off of running for a while so it could heal up and so I have not done a lot at the gym. Well it was feeling better so I went and did the sports conditioning class at the YMCA and now I irritated it and my foot is real sore. I wonder if something or telling me to slow down and that I am not as young as I use to be. So here we go again and I am not a quitter so I will just slow down again and see what happens. It was a tough weekend for me with a funeral on Saturday of a 24 year old young soldier who fell asleep behind the wheel and he left a 4 year old son behind. Then yesterday going through the tazer class. I was showing some the video that was taken and some people thought it was disturbing and some people laughed. All I know is that I do not have to do it again. Well you all have a great day.

Sunday, July 13, 2008

Well today is a day I will never forget. We trained today on how to use the taser and for us to get certified we had to get tazed. I have never felt such a shock in my life and it was the longest 5 seconds I have ever spent with every muscle just tightened up. When it was done I ended up with a severe cramp in my calf muscles but that was it. I am glad I did it but I am also glad that I will not have to do it again. I am certified now. I guess the next step is pepper spray and that is something I am not looking forward too. Well this is my first blog and I hope to keep up with it. I am just glad that I had something interesting to share.
