There are a few good things that came out of this deployment and one of those things are the friendships that I have made. You really don't think about it much but all along you were friends but on a different level. I have posted in an earlier blog about the friends I have made and how people are different when you get to be with them 24/7 and you see there little quirks. Some of the people that I have hung out with, they will just stay acquaintances but some have become good friends. Like my roommate for instance, we were good friends before we were deployed but since we hung out together and shared the same room our friendship has grown. I believe that friendship moved on to a whole new level. I know things will change once we get out of here but our friendship has grown. I am really glad for that because they know how we are and if this ever happens again and we get deployed together, we can request that we room together.
Now let me tell you about another friend that I got close to while I was over here. That friend is my wife. She has been a real trooper while I have been gone and you don't realize what you got until it is not there everyday. I have to thank technology because they let me see her everyday on Skype and that is a great tool to have. I was told once that you have to get close to God and you can get closer together. That is what we did we got closer to God during our separation and as we got closer to Him we got closer together. The way I can explain this is imagine a triangle and God is at the top. Now put yourself and your wife on each side of the triangle. As you get closer to God you get closer to each other. We had a saying that we ended our letters with and that was "See you at the top" or "Still climbing".
I am proud to say that come this October I will have been married to my best friend for 20 years. Sometimes you don't like to be apart but sometimes being apart brings you closer together. I love you Vickie.

"God was missing for six days. Eventually, Michael, the archangel, found him, resting on the seventh day.

He inquired, 'Where have you been?'

God smiled deeply and proudly pointed downwards through the clouds, 'Look, Michael. Look what I've made.'

Archangel Michael looked puzzled, and, 'What is it?'

'It's a planet,' replied God, and I've put life on it. I'm going to call it Earth and it's going to be a place to test Balance.'

'Balance? 'inquired Michael, 'I'm still confused.'

God explained, pointing to different parts of Earth. 'For example, northern Europe will be a place of great opportunity and wealth, while southern Europe is going to be poor. Over here I've placed a continent of white people, and over there is a continent of black people. Balance in all things.'

God continued pointing to different countries. 'This one will be extremely hot, while this one will be very cold and covered in ice.'

The Archangel , impressed by God's work, then pointed to a land area and said, 'What's that one?'

'That's Pennsylvania , the most glorious place on earth. There are beautiful mountains, rivers and streams, lakes, forests, hills, and plains. The people from Pennsylvania are going to be handsome, modest, intelligent, and humorous, and they are going to travel the world. They will be extremely sociable, hardworking, high achieving, carriers of peace, and producers of good things.'

Michael gasped in wonder and admiration, but then asked, 'But what about balance, God? You said there would be balance.'

God smiled, 'Not very far from Pennsylvania is Washington , DC . Wait till you see the idiots I put there.'"
