Well in just a few days it will be 2013 and we are sitting here wondering what we did in 2012 because it went so fast. I don't know if you noticed it or not but all the weight loss commercials have started. You got your Weight Watchers, Jenny Craig, and Nutrisystem. I sit back and think about it and say "here we go again". We will start getting all the newbies to the gym and it will become crowded for a few weeks.

I wonder how much money the gyms make by people signing up and then they just stop coming after a few weeks. You know the gyms do not mind because it is free money for them. With this being said I hope that if you do make a resolution I hope you can keep it this year. Here is a video I found and it is for all my friend. I wish you the best New Year in 2013.

I hope you year is full of Blessings.

I am going to have some fun. Starting December 1st I am going to post a video from you tube dealing with Christmas. It might be funny, serious or just plain Christmas. I hope everyone will enjoy it.

Well folks here we go, Thanksgiving is over and the Christmas rush has started. I knew Thanksgiving was over when one of the radio stations I listen too is now playing 24/7 Christmas music. I do not mind Christmas music but it can get old very quick. Well back to Black Friday and the crazy people that get out there and do this. If it is your thing then great you all have fun. I would rather sit back and see the chaos the next day on the news. Here is a video from Wal-Mart
These people are fighting over phones and as you can see it got a little crazy. Then you got this one from Best Buy.
I know Black Friday is for all the stores to get out of the red and start making a profit but it seems to get earlier and earlier every year. I think it is funny because they call it black Friday and it starts on Thursday.

Like I said if this is something you like to do more power to you and you enjoy it as much as you want. I am going to remain old fashioned and stay home with my family on Thanksgiving day and eat, watch football, and then eat some more. I will not be lining up at a store to wait for hours for something I am going to fight for to get.

Now lets go back in time and this might not have anything to do with Black Friday but it was a big craze for the holiday season.
Do you remeber this and the very ugly dolls that you can adopt and actually get adoption papers when you sent in the information from the doll. I remember this and when you watched it on the news it seemed like these dolls were real and people just had to have them. I think the phrase goes "to each their own".

I am not a Black Friday shopper. I am the type of shopper to sit back and wait for all the crazies to get done then I will go out and shop. Happy holidays everyone, no wait Merry Christmas everyone.

Today is Thanksgiving and it is a day we give thanks and eat until we cannot eat anymore. I know we all need to be grateful for something and I am giving thanks today for my family. They support me in all things that I do and are very encouraging to me when I am gone with the military.

I also want to say thank you to all our military who are serving our country and protecting our freedom. Today is a day we are suppose to be home with our families and they are out in harms way protecting us. I remember when I was in Panama in 1989 and was gone over Christmas. It is tough on holidays like Thanksgiving and Christmas because we miss our families but we also have jobs to do and we do them well and with a good attitude.

To all the Soldiers, Marines, Air Force, Navy, and Coast Guard thank you for letting me have the freedom to enjoy this Thanksgiving. Thanks for protecting my freedom and most of all you are all in my prayers.

Well as you all know and thank God the election is over. I do not know if your guy won or lost it does not matter. I had this scripture verse come into my head this morning and it just fits with the times that is going on. It does not matter whether you like the man that is in office or not. He still needs to be respected for the office he holds. It is going to be a tough job and one that I would not want to do. We need to pray for our leadership whether it is the president, our Governors, our Senators, our Congressman, even our Mayors. They all have there job because of this one verse.

The verse is Romans 13:1-2 Everyone must submit to governing authorities. For all authority comes from God, and those in positions of authority have been placed there by God. So anyone who rebels against authority is rebelling against what God has instituted, and they will be punished.

We need to pray for our nation that we get back to a nation that is God fearing and we live by the rules God has set before us. There was a message on a church marquee and it said "Without God we are one nation under." Lets get back on our knees and start praying for our nation. I am reading a book right now called Too Busy not to Pray and there is a line in there that says " when we work we work but when we pray God works."

You may not like the man that is in office but he holds a job and has the authority that has been set by God. Let's start praying for our nation and that the man that is in charge will realize he has a nation standing behind him in prayer. GOD BLESS OUR NATION.

Well it is almost over, that is ELECTION DAY. With all the adds and negative commercials it is getting down right terrible. It will be nice to see the stupid commercials ending and I can finally get down to the real commercials. You know how things seem to start coming out earlier and earlier each year. Like Christmas stuff is coming out before Halloween now and you wander what ever happened to Halloween and Thanksgiving. I got a great idea maybe the people running for president in 2016 should start on Nov 7th so they can get a good jump on it.

So do you remember when you were a kid was it that bad back then. Did we have Christmas stuff coming out before Halloween and it seem like we are always in a rush. People start putting up Christmas stuff earlier and earlier all the time. In my house Christmas does not go up until after Thanksgiving.

How about black Friday. I guess being a kid was a long time ago but I do not remember a black Friday when I was growing up. Today it seems like it is all about the money, the sales, and the bottom line. I think this year it is time to take it slow and reflect on where I have been and where I am going.

So I am going to leave with a question.

WHAT WAS YOUR BEST GIFT AS A KID? The answer does not have to deal with a holiday it could be a birthday. Looking forward to your answers.

I was just reading a blog that I always look forward to reading. It is from Waiting To Exhale and she was going to give up blogging and she decided not too. I have not posted anything since July and I always thought about coming back but didn't. Well I need to so be expecting to see things from me whether it is funny, serious, spiritual or just plain dumb. I will be back. Talk to you all in the blog.

Well it is the 4th of July again and I am tired from working our town's Freedom Festival. It is a fun time to see all the people come out for a good time of food fun and fireworks. The festival consists of booths of food that are over priced and that is not all that good. It consists of booths of people trying to get your business or your vote. There is nothing wrong with all this but it got me thinking that we live in such a great nation that we have the freedom to do this and not worry about it. The only thing we have to worry about is how much of that not so good and over priced food we ate.

As I was at this festival I started thinking about my daughters graduation. I had the honor at her graduation to recognize all the veterans that were at the graduation. I was asked if I can do this before hand and of course I was honored too ( this was after I asked my daughter because this was her day). I got to the graduation and I wore my ACU's because of what I was doing and what I was representing.

I took the podium and I asked for all the veterans who are serving now and who have served in the past to please stand up. It was an awesome sight to see these ladies and gentlemen standing up to be recognized. I was told as a soldier we do not wear our caps indoors or salute without our caps on unless you are reporting to an officer. I went ahead and put my cap on and told the men and woman that were standing that is is because of your sacrifice we have the freedom to have this graduation. I also said that because of your sacrifice I salute you.. This is also for whoever reads this that have served and gave us their time and service. This is also for the ones who gave the ultimate sacrifice. I SALUTE YOU.
They always tell us that freedom isn't free and it is not. I found this video on line and it is a Memorial day video but if fits for today too. As soldiers we are all tough but we had the ultimate soldier to look up to and He died for us to give us the freedom we have today. We should always remember the soldiers that have given the ultimate sacrifice and the one that started it all. It is because of Him that we still have freedom. Please watch and enjoy the video.

To all the soldiers and including the ultimate soldier. Thanks for dying for our freedom.

The last 2 days my wife and I was at Lipscomb University with my daughter. We were there for orientation because she will be spending the next 4 years there for college. We were sitting in classes all day learning about the college and what to expect. It was what you call information overload and they kept cramming it in. The one good thing about it was the days were beautiful and the campus is real nice and the best part is it is only 40 minutes from home. She will be living on campus so she will not be around the house that much anymore except for weekends.

Well the day was getting rough and we were both suffering from information overload and she wanted to go find a swing. Throughout the campus they have these swings that look like a porch swing. We went out and found one and sat down on it and started talking. I am not saying I gave up my man card but I lost it and I did cry. My daughter is leaving for college and it seems like yesterday she was born. I guess it is one of those things that you just have to do and I let it out. I have 2 girls and I am what you call a very proud dad for both of them. My youngest is going to be a junior in high school so it won't be long and she will leave me too.

My daughter will be moving in her dorm room on the 13th of August and after she moves in and I get over being sad on that day I go to my Annual Training with the guard. I got this feeling that my daughter will be getting a lot of texts from her dear old dad and I don't think she will mind.

I am not ashamed to say I cried and I bet any dad would when one of your kids moves on to the next step in there lives because eventually they are starting there own lives. That is a tough thing to swallow right now but it is going to happen. To top it off she graduates from High School tomorrow and I get to hear her name called out and see her walk the line. Yes I probably will cry again. Have a good night.

This was an e-mail I received and wanted to share it.

Luke AFB is west of Phoenix and is rapidly being surrounded by civilization that complains about the noise from the base and its planes, forgetting that it was there long before they were... A certain lieutenant colonel at Luke AFB deserves a big pat on the back. Apparently, an individual who lives somewhere near Luke AFB wrote the local paper complaining about a group of F-16s that disturbed his/her day at the mall.

When that individual read the response from a Luke AFB officer, it must have stung quite a bit.

The complaint:

'Question of the day for Luke Air Force Base:

Whom do we thank for the morning air show? Last Wednesday, at precisely 9:11 A.M, a tight formation of four F-16 jets made a low pass over Arrowhead Mall, continuing west over Bell Road at approximately 500 feet. Imagine our good fortune! Do the Tom Cruise-wannabes feel we need this wake-up call, or were they trying to impress the cashiers at Mervyn's early bird special?

Any response would be appreciated.

The response:

Regarding 'A wake-up call from Luke's jets' On June 15, at precisely 9:12 a.m. , a perfectly timed four- ship fly by of F-1 6s from the 63rd Fighter Squadron at Luke Air Force Base flew over the grave of Capt. Jeremy Fresques. Capt Fresques was an Air Force officer who was previously stationed at Luke Air Force Base and was killed in Iraq on May 30, Memorial Day.

At 9 a. m. on June 15, his family and friends gathered at Sunland Memorial Park in Sun City to mourn the loss of a husband, son and friend. Based on the letter writer's recount of the fly by, and because of the jet noise, I'm sure you didn't hear the 21-gun salute, the playing of taps, or my words to the widow and parents of Capt. Fresques as I gave them their son's flag on behalf of the President of the United States and all those veterans and servicemen and women who understand the sacrifices they have endured..

A four-ship fly by is a display of respect the Air Force gives to those who give their lives in defense of freedom. We are professional aviators and take our jobs seriously, and on June 15 what the letter writer witnessed was four officers lining up to pay their ultimate respects.

The letter writer asks, 'Whom do we thank for the morning air show'? The 56th Fighter Wing will make the call for you, and forward your thanks to the widow and parents of Capt Fresques, and thank them for you, for it was in their honor that my pilots flew the most honorable formation of their lives.

Only 2 defining forces have ever offered to die for you....Jesus Christ and the American Soldier. One died for your soul, the other for your freedom.

Lt. Col. Grant L. Rosensteel, Jr.

Well it is that time of year again where we spend our weekends out CUTTING THE GRASS. I live on an acre in a half of land and I cut most of it. There are some areas I just let nature take it's course. There is one thing I like and yes I said like about CUTTING THE GRASS is it is mine. I am not cutting someone else's grass I am cutting mine. I live out in the country and it is so nice.

Some people think I am weird because I push mow my front yard and it is a lot of yard to push. I look at it as it is good cardio workout doing all that walking. I look at it that way but I also look at it that when I am done it looks oh so great. I have used the ride on mower on it a few times but it does not do it justice.  This is a picture of my front yard.

I really like getting out there and CUTTING MY GRASS and that in itself is weird but like I said before it is my grass. Now I am looking at the weather and there is a 70% chance of rain today and possible thunderstorms all around us. You start thinking do I take a chance and get the mower out or do I just wait and see what happens.  Usually what happens is if you get the mower out it rains and if you don't it won't. I know me I will get the mower out and start CUTTING MY GRASS and just quit when the rain does start. This picture is my backyard. Both Pictures were taken last year.

This Sunday morning like we always do the board prays for our Pastor before Sunday service. After we got done praying he was telling us how he would like to do communion this Sunday. He told us he would like the congregation to come up and get communion instead of us passing it out to them. Then he said something that hit me really hard. He said he wanted the congregation to come to the table instead of the table coming to them. I don't know why this hit me so hard but it has me thinking on the phrase " Come to the table."

Now I looked up that phrase and some scripture versus that tell us to come are found in Exodus 24:12 (NLT) Then the LORD said to Moses, “Come up to me on the mountain. Stay there, and I will give you the tablets of stone on which I have inscribed the instructions and commands so you can teach the people.”

God is telling us come up to Him. He could of came down but it is the act of obedience when He said "Come up to me." He is wanting us to come to the table and be with Him. He is sitting there waiting for us to come and we just sit back waiting for Him to come to us. The reason I am writing this is because of the excuses I hear why people left a church. This is probably the number one excuse and it is the one I hear the most. Have you figured out the excuse yet? The excuse is "I am not being fed."

I think they are not being fed is because they are not entering in and really looking to see what the Lord will do for them if they just come to the table. This Sunday morning we had an alter service that was for everyone and a lot of people did respond. I happen to open my eyes and look around and see people still at their seats and they were not handicapped so they could of come.

I can just see in my mind the Lord saying " I have so much to give you if you would just Come to the table and see what I have to offer. It also says in Matthew 11:28 (NLT) Then Jesus said, “Come to me, all of you who are weary and carry heavy burdens, and I will give you rest. He is just waiting for us to come to Him and receive what He is offering.

The only other thing I can think of when I hear the excuse "I am not being fed" is maybe they just are not hungry. We should always be hungry for the Lord in all aspects of our lives. We need to come to Him and not sit back and wait because some times if we wait we miss out on so much He has for us.

It say in John 7:37(NIV) On the last and greatest day of the festival, Jesus stood and said in a loud voice, “Let anyone who is thirsty come to me and drink. So maybe we need to get hungry or thirsty for the Lord and start being fed the way we need to. Maybe it is time to stop saying "I am not being fed" and start saying "Lord feed me as I come to you."

Let's come to the table and see what is being served and you just might be surprised at what you find at the table.

I just got home from a military school and it is so good to be home. I have been gone a month but it felt like it was forever. I know I spent longer away while I was in Iraq but this felt like it was longer than a month. I guess it was the 3 weeks of DEATH BY POWER POINT and that is why it felt so long.

Well back to the school I was at, I was at ALC (Advanced Leaders Course) and that is formerly BNCOC (Basic NonCommissioned Officer Course) and it was 3 weeks of looking into military manuals to find regulations and the way things should be done. I will put it to you this way after the first week you could not take it anymore. You wanted to stab a pencil in your eye just for fun because you wanted to change things up just a little.

The school was at Fort Hunter Liggett in lovely (Yeah right) Jolon, Ca and I seen a shirt there at the PX that described it right. The shirt said " Fort Hunter Liggett, 30 miles from nowhere, 3 feet from hell". It was a 45 minute drive in any direction to get anywhere if you wanted to go to a restaurant or get to a Wal-Mart, yes I said Wal-Mart. The instructors took us out a few times just so we can get off post and maybe get some of our sanity back because we were going crazy.

The last week of our training was going to the field to do some of the missions they were teaching us in the 3 weeks of power point. The day before we went to the field they told us we are not going to have the right equipment for our missions. Let me explain, they gave us Humvee's without gunner hatches. We were told that when we come to a security halt the gunner needed to get out of the vehicle and jump in the back of the Humvee and pretend he was in the gunners hatch. I think they should of given us sticks and we could of pretended they were our weapons.

The one thing that was good about the school was I met new friends. It is funny that you get a bunch of guys from all over the United States and you put the uniform on and you immediately bond. We had guys from Nebraska, Ohio, West Virginia, Pennsylvania and you put us all together and it was like we knew each other all our lives. We just started talking and sharing our stories about deployments, families, and jobs. It was a mixture of National Guard and Reservests. Like I said we put the uniform on and we just bonded. That was the only thing that kept us from going totally crazy.

Well I am glad to be home again and I am glad the school is done and behind me now. It was nice to get off the plane and walk to get my bags and there was my daughter and father-in-law waiting for me. I was texting my wife because her and my other daughter were home sick. I am so glad to have a great loving family that supports me in what I am doing. Well I bored you enough y'all have a great day.

Respect is a very good word to learn and I looked it up in the dictionary and it says it is a deference to a right, privilege, privileged position, or someone or something considered to have certain rights or privileges; proper acceptance or courtesy; acknowledgment: respect for a suspects right to counsel; to show respect for the flag; respect for the elderly. The condition of being esteemed or honored: to be held in respect.

Now I am in the army and we are always suppose to show respect to those in a higher rank than us. I know what you are thinking and yes sometimes we respect the rank and not the person, that is besides the point. The kind of respect I am talking about is the respect between a husband and a wife. Being in the military you have to deal with and listen to all kinds of stuff. Whether it be cussing or bad jokes and as a Christian you just let them go in one ear and out the next.  The reason I am talking about respect is sometime you hear the way some of these guys talk about there wives and I just can't believe it. It is so disrespectful that I can just throw up. I start to wonder if they actually talk about them like that at home too. It just amazes me that the respect they show for there wives is not better than what they say.

The one thing I always try to do in front of my peers is lift my wife up so others can see that she is a great woman. What is going to happen when they get home and they let it slip and there kids hear them talking bad about there Mom. They are going to plant a seed they wish they never planted. Then another disrespectful thing I seen is the way they talk about there wives in a way that only a husband should be sharing with his wife. You know all the intimate details of what goes on in there lives. That is when I draw the line and walk away because I don't need to hear that.

I guess what I am trying to say is we should always respect our wives for who they are and that is the love of our lives and the Mom to our kids. You would see more people defend the respect of there Mom's faster than the respect of there wives. I got a great wife and I love her to death and I would never disrespect her the way some of these guys disrespect there's. I know what you are thinking and you just say it is the military and the that is the way it is. The military teaches us respect and so we should live it as well as it is taught to us. I would not want to disrespect anybody and I hope I never make that mistake and disrespect anyone else. Let's always remember that respect is something we are taught and that we should always show it.

Our wives have earned our respect and we should always give it. I LOVE YOU VICKIE......

This is probably one of those holidays where a lot of money is spent on flowers, chocolate, and cards. It is one of those days I think that men don't really like because they are not that into all this cupid stuff and we just send a card and say I love you. When you think about it and you are away from your wife on this holiday it does start to mean something. Yes I am away from my wife and family this valentines day and I miss them terribly. I did however send them flowers and had them delivered on this special day for the three ladies in my life. I was so glad they got them and thing turned out ok. It is just different when you are not with the one you love on this special day. I have been married now for over 21 years and I fall in love with my wife more and more everyday. So today is kind of a sad day for me and I wish I could have taken her out to dinner. I will make that up to her when I get home. My girls called me and said they really liked the flowers I had delivered and I even received a text from them with a picture of the flowers. I guess you can say this is one of those mushy blogs that you just need to write once in a while. Since I have not written in a while I guess it is time to start off with a mushy blog. Well to my wife and daughters I LOVE YOU and HAPPY VALENTINES DAY.

You know I started thinking about this a few weeks ago and was not sure if I needed to write about it. It has been sticking with me for a while now so I guess I better. Have you ever noticed when you talk with people about the Bible they use the term "Bible times." Let me explain this term, OK back in Bible times people lived a lot longer or back in Bible times life was a lot easier, or better yet back in Bible times is the only time miracles happened. Now this is not true.

Miracles are still going on today but you need to open your eyes and see them because they are all around you. Did you know you are a miracle in itself. Think about this for a second, think about your brain ( I know some people are lacking in this area ) It controls everything in your body and you don't have to do a thing. You don't tell yourself to breathe but your brain does, you don't tell your legs to move when you walk they just do. When you wake up in the morning and roll out of bed (some later than others ) you just do it because of the miracle inside your head that has everything programed to do it. We just do it and when you think about it it is just miraculous. Now you are going to be thinking about your breathing and you realize I was right, you just do it. If we had to tell ourselves to breathe there would be a lot of dead people because we forgot to tell ourselves.

Miracles still take place all around us, just think of a sunrise and all the beauty it transpires. You cannot see it if you are one of those late sleepers but it is the best thing in the world. I always like the sunrise when you are out running and you see the sun come up it brings out a new energy in you and you just keep going and it is like you realize that it is a brand new day and you can do anything. How about a sunset and that is a miracle too. I remember when I lived out in California and my wife and I would sit on the beach and watch the sunset. You want to see something spectacular see that. It just appears that the sun is going down into the ocean. Miracles are all around us.

Miracles happen in our personal life too. If you have kids and realized the aspect of a baby growing inside the womb, that is a miracle and it cannot be called anything else. We all seen the pictures of the baby growing and what happen each week while the baby is growing and you think how can that happen. All I can say is that is a miracle. Then when you have that baby and you hold it in your arms and you feel this love like you never felt before. It is love so strong that no matter what happens you will always love them. That my friend is a miracle.

Miracles happen all around us and all we have to do is open our eyes and see them. I am going to challenge you this week to slow down and see the miracles that are all around you. Take a deep breath and know that is a miracle, see a sunrise or sunset and know that is a miracle, see your kids whether they are home or moved away and know that is a miracle.

I was at my armory today for drill and as I was walking around doing things that soldiers do. If you walk around with a paper in your hand you can look like you are real busy, I was busy really. I noticed that people cannot put there cell phones up. They remain in their hands and they are constantly texting on them. It is like if they put the phone down they might just die or shrivel up. I am all for technology and the way it helps us progress in this world. If you are having a conversation with someone, this is the old way conversation you know face to face mouth moving and words coming out. Then they get a text and right there your conversation is put on hold until they text back. It makes you feel like you are second fiddle and that text conversation is much more important then what you were saying. You cannot see people's faces anymore because they are always looking down at there phone and waiting for the response from the last text they sent. I was in a meeting the other day and there the phones are on the table and as the meeting is going on texts come and it vibrates the whole table. What have we come too that you can't just call someone to talk too you have to text them. I had a soldier like that once and I would call him and he would not answer. I would leave a message and still no answer. I would text him and say the words "call me" and He would call me in less then a minute. Like I said I am all for technology but if it takes the place of reality then we might need to second guess it. What are we doing and why are we just not talking. I know I heard all the answers and they all come down to one answer. It is just easier to text then to call. I can only say BULL and that is just me. I guess I am just old school who likes to hear a persons voice when I talk to them and not letters on the phone. How would you like to get "I am pregnant" on a text and not hear the excitement in the persons voice who is telling you. You cannot hear your moms voice in a text or your daughters voice and her excitement in whatever she is doing. I think we need to come back to reality and just talk on the phone. You know if you really think about it it is easier to call then it is to text. So that seems to be my gripe for this week. I think we just need to lift our heads from our phones and see all this great beauty that God has given us. You are missing out on so much.
